Provides direct patient care to patients being treated at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's satellite locations in the Southern area (e.g. Weymouth and Brighton). The satellite cross coverage RN will be assigned to a satellite location on a time limited basis based on business needs including but not limited to staff vacancy, leaves of absences or patient volume. Requires extensive travel and the ability to quickly assimilate to new environments and foster team relationships at each site. The satellite cross coverage nurse's responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for a complex patient population. Provides patient and family education and psychosocial and emotional support. Provides staffing support across the DFCI satellite practices and is a member of each multidisciplinary care team. Effective communication and collaboration is required with physicians, co-workers and staff at the satellite practices, DFCI, host hospital, and other collaborating institutions and agencies. Requires travel and schedule flexibility along with clinical expertise, critical thinking, collaborative practice, excellent communication skills and an understanding of the principles and practices of clinical research. This position is eligible for mileage reimbursement based on policy, and also eligible for a float pay premium.??

Delivers expert, evidence-based nursing care to patients and families.
Implements nursing process:
Assesses patient and family needs.
Analyzes assessment data to develop and support clinically accurate diagnoses.
Plans care by establishing goals with measurable outcomes.

Documents care according to Institute and regulatory agencies' requirements.
Administers medications, which may include chemotherapy, and performs procedures safely and efficiently in accordance with Institute policy. May administer blood transfusions.
Evaluates educational and psychological needs of patient and family, and incorporates identified needs into the plan of care.
Educates patient and family regarding various aspects and treatment modalities of disease, which may include chemotherapy and radiation therapy.??
Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately. Maintains BLS certification.
Identifies appropriate community resources to promote continuity of care, and makes appropriate referrals.
Complies with accepted standards of professional nursing practice, as well as with all licensure/registration requirements applicable to the nursing role.
Adapts to site specific policies, procedures and processes, communicates variations to Senior Nurse Director.
Establishes rapport with patients and families from a variety of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Assists in defining goals and developing systems and work processes for the units, the Division of Nursing and the Institute.
Participates in program-based and divisional committees, councils, and initiatives.

Participates in QA/QI projects for the units and the Division of Nursing and Patient Care Services.

Licensed as a registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Baccalaureate degree required; baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
Minimum of 1 year (or equivalent) of nursing experience, outpatient oncology and IV experience preferred.
Certification in Oncology Nursing preferred - OCN, AOCN, CPON
Must have a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation to travel to and from the satellite locations.
Demonstrated ability to work as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and ability to make independent decisions.
Ability to function in a busy work setting with patients with complex needs.
