Use your software skills to aid human health by assisting in developing and conducting research projects, including experiment design, data analysis, and documentation of experiment results.
Work with an established School of Medicine faculty member to develop advanced computer simulations of clinical care relevant to stroke treatment, as well as deep learning tools broadly relevant to medical practice. Work is in an office environment with a strong academic culture. Candidates can expect regular guidance from sponsoring faculty and collaborators but will have substantial responsibility to design, develop, document, and maintain codebase. There will be opportunities to publish scientific manuscripts that can improve public health.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Designs, develops, and implements:
Algorithms and computer software for omics-based data sets [high-throughput, massively parallel genomic/proteomic/clinical].
Data management and analysis solutions that aid in the storage, investigation, and dissemination of large data sets.
Independent research projects, including design of research protocols and development of procedures for the collection, verification, and management of data.
Performs complex systems analysis of data and writes interpretative reports.
Evaluates commercial and academic bioinformatics software.
Trains other researchers on the everyday use of analysis software and research databases.
Assists with grant preparation and reporting of methods, data, and results.
Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects; suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
Analytical reasoning and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of standard research policies, procedures and equipment.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
Expertise in Python coding, and extensive familiarity with Matlab, deep learning toolkits (e.g., TensorFlow, Keras), and Linux.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or a related field plus four years of experience; or a master's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or a related field plus two years of experience; or combined education and experience of nine years.
$51,400.00 - $93,400.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
