Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing.
Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver's license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.
Required Special Qualifications:
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Minnesota is required upon employment.
- Certification as a Public Health Nurse in the State of Minnesota is required within six (6) months of employment.

Nature of Work
-
Under general public health nursing supervision, provides public health nursing services in the areas of adult and family health, disease prevention and control, health promotion and emergency preparedness to improve health outcomes for individuals, families, communities and populations in need within the county.

Examples of Work
-
- Works in Olmsted County Public Health’s Clinic Services area, primarily independently in the sexually transmitted infection (STI)/ Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) clinic program providing nursing services, education and leading community workgroups.
- Supports lead program nurses in the Tuberculosis, Immunization and Refugee Health clinic areas with back-up coverage.
- Assists in epidemiology disease surveillance and investigative activities including but not limited to TB, VPD and STD/HIV.
- Consults with physicians, school personnel, social service personnel and other agencies in the promotion of optimum health practices and referrals.
- Conducts screening programs for target groups, makes appropriate referrals and provides follow-up.
- Provides appropriate health promotion and education information to clients and target groups.
- Maintains CPR certification with the ability to perform CPR when necessary. Obtains and maintains other necessary certifications as needed.
- Supports the department during disease outbreaks emergency situations that may require non-standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Performs related work as assigned.
