Spanish Language Interpreter:
The purpose of the Spanish Language Interpreter position is to assist individuals with limited English proficiency in overcoming language limitations so as to ensure access to healthcare regardless of language, background or immigration status at the Harnett County Health Department (HCHD).
As an interpreter, you will help people communicate and ensure that messages are understood between parties who speak Spanish and English.
The HCHD provides high quality interpreters, and sets and maintains the highest professional standards for the provision of language services.
Language Requirements: Must be fluent in both English and Spanish.
Responsibilities: Core responsibilities of the Spanish Language Interpreter -WIC program are: • Must be sensitive to patients' personal circumstances, as well as maintain confidentiality and ethical standards. • Must have knowledge of medical terminology and of common medical terms in both languages. • Must have the ability to concentrate while others are speaking or moving around them. • Must be sensitive to cultural differences and expectations among the people whom they are helping to communicate. • Must listen carefully when interpreting for audiences to ensure that they hear and interpret correctly. • Must speak clearly when interpreting to ensure that they interpret correctly.
Education: GED, High School Diploma or Higher Education.
Experience: A strong desire to be of service to the medical community. A good foundation in the Spanish language is required for the job. Previous employment working within health care setting is preferred.
