Job Responsibilities:
Under supervision of the Outbreak/Waterborne Disease Coordinator, the Environmental Epidemiologist will be responsible for coordinating Georgia's case-based surveillance and outbreak investigations for notifiable enteric parasitic diseases, including cryptosporidiosis, cyclosporiasis, and giardiasis. Additionally, this epidemiologist will lead free-living ameba case investigations and harmful algal bloom investigations that affect human or animal health. Frequent coordination and communication with local epidemiologists, other state epidemiologists, and CDC program groups is a core responsibility for this position. This epidemiologist will also collect, analyze, interpret, and report statistical data related to individual cases and outbreaks of cryptosporidiosis, cyclosporiasis, and giardiasis. Last, this position may also respond to inquiries about and improve response plans and surveillance systems for enteric parasitic and other waterborne diseases. As a part of the larger Georgia Department of Public Health epidemiology team, this position will occasionally respond to general inquiries from the public.
The Environmental Epidemiologist will be responsible for:
Coordinating and conducting cryptosporidiosis and cyclosporiasis case-based surveillance
Leading free-living ameba case investigations
Leading public health harmful algal bloom investigations
Providing epidemiologic support in conducting epidemiologic and outbreak investigations
Performing routine statistical analysis to determine trends and detect possible clusters and/or outbreaks
Compiling data and other content for reports and grants
