CDPH is currently hiring a Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Intersex (TGI) Research Scientist (RS) within our Office of Health Equity. In this role, you will contribute to the research and evaluation for a complex statewide grant program (the Two Spirit, TGI Wellness and Equity Fund, “2TGI Fund”) and will be responsible for co-authoring reports requiring interpretation and clear summarization of results of complex program evaluation, the results of which will be used in educating the public on TGI health and developing new, effective public health prevention programs focused on TGI communities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collects, manages, processes, and analyzes qualitative and quantitative data to support program evaluation efforts for the 2TGI Fund, where the nature of the program and policies developed are highly visible both within and outside the Department

• Analyzes and interprets public health data using social/behavioral science frameworks based on include indicators of TGI health, demographic and socioeconomic measures in surveys, and place-based equity metrics

• Supports the RS Staff in developing data collection instruments, quality control measures and data analytic methods, and assists in the interpretation of findings regarding the intervention or activity being evaluated

• Works closely with a variety of TGI populations, researchers and grantees (community-based organizations) to ensure that the design and implementation of research and evaluation are culturally and linguistically responsive and community driven

• Supports the RS Staff in providing evaluation-related technical assistance to grantees, to determine the effectiveness of individually funded grant programs, and the 2TGI Fund overall, in reducing inequities experienced by TGI populations

• Contributes to the development of evaluation tools, ensuring consistent quality standards and complete documentation

• Assists the RS Staff in tracking, monitoring, and reporting of impacts of GHES technical assistance within and across California Health and Human Services (CHHS) Agency

• Assists in the provision of training and technical assistance to CDPH programs and offices on TGI-related health equity data and research, as needed

• Performs periodic literature review summaries on the latest trends and developments related to TGI health research, and establishes and maintains an electronic library of resources

• Collaborates with other OHE sections and teams on data analysis, data dashboard development, and writing of data briefs

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited college/university in any of the above stated scientific specialties or closely related specialty. Registration as a senior student in a recognized institution will admit applicants to the examination, but they must produce evidence of successful completion of the curriculum and the prescribed degree before they may be considered eligible for appointment.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing research with and in TGI communities in an ethical and transparent manner

• Experience working with TGI communities, especially TGI communities of color in a culturally and linguistically responsive manner

• Demonstrated understanding of research related to TGI health, health equity or access

• Experience with the World Professional Association of Transgender Health Standards of Care and the Transgender Research Informed Consent (TRICON) Disclosure Policy

• In-depth knowledge of TGI health equity issues and health care access barriers

• Experience leading the design and implementation of program evaluation for health programs

• Ability to work with a multidisciplinary professional and administrative staff

• Knowledge of health equity and social determinants of health

• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, for a variety of audiences including executive leadership, stakeholders and government officials

• Ability to prioritize and simultaneously manage multiple complex projects
