Sanitarian I/ Sanitarian-In-Training
The Sanitarian I performs moderately complex (journey-level) food service and environmental sanitation inspection work, often requiring up to 90% travel within the region. Key responsibilities include inspecting permitted and non-permitted food service facilities, performing environmental sanitation inspections of youth camps, and investigating consumer complaints or food-borne illness outbreaks. Initial screening requires a bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours in basic or natural science and two years of sanitation experience; applicants without the experience may be considered for the Environmental Protection Specialist I classification. The successful candidate must ultimately achieve Professional Registered Sanitarian status within two years of employment.
