The Johnston County Public Health Department is seeking a Computer Systems Administrator I to join its two-person Information Technology unit, which supports approximately 130 users. This role serves as the initial point of contact for IT support issues and is responsible for triaging and managing tickets as they are submitted.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and collaborative individual with exceptional attention to detail. They will possess the ability to independently drive projects forward and recommend innovative solutions to complex technical challenges. The ability to provide excellent customer service and follow-through while balancing competing demands is paramount for success in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and inventory of software and computer equipment such as department-issued personal computers, laptops, tablets, peripherals, and various other equipment. This role also provides user management for the various computer systems used by the agency.
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of hardware, software, local area networks, and data security methods and best practices
Staying abreast of healthcare-specific rules and regulations and protecting patient privacy
Serving as a user administrator in the various systems utilized by the agency
Troubleshooting and resolving problems with computer equipment and software for the agency
Providing support for the agency’s Electronic Health Record system, Athena One.
Providing support for productivity software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
Performing or arranging for repairs and upgrades to equipment
Making recommendations on replacement of equipment and software
Monitoring and supporting the vaccine temperature-monitoring system which sometimes includes after-hours support or troubleshooting
Serving as a location administrator and providing support for a VoIP telephone system with over 200 telephones
Supporting an enterprise network comprised of over 300 computers in addition to a wide array of other types of devices
Supporting external users who access the agency’s systems
Onboarding and off boarding staff in various software systems
Using Active Directory to assign users to appropriate group membership for access to network resources and systems
Calibrating clinical equipment
Supporting audiovisual equipment in meeting rooms
Coordinating resolution of issues with network equipment, firewall configuration, Active Directory group policies, and other items managed at the county level by Johnston County Technology Services
Using Google Sites to make edits and additions to the agency’s Intranet
Any other duties deemed appropriate by management within the scope of Public Health operations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computers and related peripheral equipment and information technology. Knowledge of the principles and methods used in obtaining maximum utilization of computing equipment. General knowledge of the particular office or business functions supported. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Desired Education and Experience:
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements - Graduation from high school and two years of experience in the administration of a computer system similar to the one to be supported; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities.
