What You Will Be Doing:
Join the Anchorage State Public Health Laboratory as a Radiological Health Physicist and assist with coordinating, developing, implementing, and maintaining Alaska's statewide Radiological Health Program. You will be responsible for investigating and characterizing unnecessary ionizing and non-ionizing radiation exposure risks and implementing measures to reduce or eliminate those risks to human health.
This position is focused on our dental sector, which offers the opportunity to travel extensively across Alaska's beautiful and rugged landscapes, experience the life of our rural community, witness the unique ways they deliver dental health programs in various environments, and conduct inspections of their radiological devices to ensure safety and compliance with Alaska regulations.

- Health Physics: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods pertaining to the protection of people, their environment, and equipment from hazards (for example, radiation or hazardous chemicals) and the control of radioactive material.
- Manages and Organizes Information: Identifies a need; gathers, organizes, and maintains information; determines its importance and accuracy, and communicates it by a variety of methods.
- Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.
Special Notice:
- A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
- This position requires frequent travel within the state (typically one trip of up to three (3) days length weekly during summer months and less frequently in winter months). Some out-of-state travel may be required for training and conferencing to stay abreast of radiological health advancements.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in health physics, environmental health, physics, or a closely related natural or physical science and two years of professional experience in health physics or a closely related field of which one year must have been in an official radiological health or radiological control program.
OR
A master's degree from an accredited college in health physics or a closely related field and one year professional experience in an official radiological health or radiological control program.
OR
A certificate in health physics technology or radiologic technology from an accredited two-year program and four years professional experience in a public health department or hospital conducting investigations and surveying the use of radiological equipment; providing advice on safe practices in radiation; and enforcing compliance with rules and regulations governing radiation use.
OR
Certification by the United States Food & Drug Administration to conduct inspections of Mammographic equipment and two years of professional experience in the field of health physics or a closely related field of which one year must have been in an official radiological health or radiological control program.
Special Note:
Candidates that do not have a certification to conduct inspections of mammographic equipment will be required to obtain and maintain certification as a condition of employment.
