The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
Leadership: Role models positive teamwork and professional communication. Duties of Charge Nurse include assessing and directing clinic flow, general problem solving, delegating duties and tasks to appropriate staff, preparing staff assignment schedule, and leading clinic "Huddle“ as needed. Serves as BCCCP coordinator/navigator and Vaccine coordinator.
Clinic Duties: Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, interview, triage, educate and implement the plan of care. Examples: complete vital signs, interviews, and patient / family education. Administers immunizations per CDC guidelines and documents in NCIR and electronic health record. Assists with procedures and provides treatments per clinic guidelines. Participates in all clinical programs: Family Planning, STD, BCCCP, Immunizations. Plan for vaccine order and administration. Adheres to vaccine storage and handling requirements, receives and documents vaccine shipments, monitors inventory.
Triage: Follow-up with patient calls, assess problems, provide medical advice per Standing Order and use of triage book, assess and triage walk-in patients per specific clinic triage protocols, and consults with providers for scheduling of late, walk-in and triage patients.
Assigned Follow-Up: Nursing team members will be assigned specific tasks by Supervisor to assure that contract addenda requirements and clinic specific needs are met. Examples: follow-up of missed appointments, positive pregnancy tests, follow-up of positive lab results, and/or case management of clinic patients. The Charge Nurse is responsible for supporting and assisting nursing team members with completion.
Quality Assurance / Quality Improvement: Collaborates and communicates with Nursing team members, Medical providers, Supervisor, PHS Management, and other departments to ensure best practices within the department. Provides input and feedback to the supervisor regarding policies and procedures, process improvements and clinic operations. Assists with collecting data, reporting outcomes and providing input to supervisor regarding program policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
Education: Participates in yearly competence activities for staff. Participates in in-services, trainings and meetings. Serves as a preceptor to new staff. Participates in educational activities supporting clinical programs: Family Planning, STD, Teen Wellness, and Immunizations.
Disaster Response: Assists the community during emergencies such as natural disasters, pandemics or bio-terrorism events by delivering services in the field as needed. Participates in staffing emergency shelter, administering vaccinations to the community and providing nursing care to assure community safety.
Carryout Performance Management (PM) roles and responsibilities, including identifying and communicating performance improvement opportunities and adjusting performance and practice to achieve established PM goals.
Implement strategies aimed at achieving Health Equity, including but not limited to: attending trainings to better understand inequities, identifying and addressing barriers to health, serving on the Health Equity Team or its subcommittees, engaging in internal or external efforts to eliminate health disparities.
Graduation with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing which included a Public Health Rotation; OR graduation from an accredited school of nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have a current, unencumbered State of North Carolina RN License, a current CPR certification, and a valid driver's license.
