Job Description and Duties
Candidates in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.
The candidate works under the general direction of the Program Manager II of the 24/7Intelligence Section, Program and Response Branch, Center for Preparedness and Response (CPR). The Research Scientist II (RS II) works within the 24/7 Intelligence Section, which operates in 8-hour shifts, 24 hours a day, seven days a week watching over California to identify potential and emerging public health threats, provide alert notification to all levels of government as well as critical situational awareness during an emergency or disaster. As part of an interdisciplinary team, the RS II works on study design, data collection, statistical analyses, and informational displays to identify potential and emerging public health threats as well as provide critical situational awareness during an emergency or disaster. The candidate is expected to rotate through various work schedules including day, swing, and night shifts.
In the event of an emergency activation, the incumbent may be required, on short notice, to work irregular and overtime hours during disaster operations in order to support one of four CDPH Emergency Operation Centers (EOC). The incumbent is required to participate on an CPR Incident Response Team (IRT).
