The work involves responsibility for providing primary health care services in a public health or other health related setting. The incumbent must be certified to practice in the specific specialty area or areas related to the work performed and the work performed must be in accordance with written practice agreements and protocols. The incumbent diagnoses illness and recommends therapeutic and corrective measures which may include the prescription of drugs, devices and immunizing agents. The work is performed independently under the appropriate license in collaboration with a licensed Physician qualifies in the specialty area. The incumbent retains responsibility for the professional tasks performed within his or her scope of practice. Does related work as required.
In order to be permanently appointed for this position, you must be appointed from a civil service exam list. This exam is a Training and Experience Exam. You will not be required to sit for a written exam. You will be scored based on an evaluation of your education and experience as shown on your resume/application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the specialty area(s) related to the work performed.*
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: When prescribing medication is required: Completion of not less than three (3) semester hours or the equivalent in pharmacology in a nurse practitioner educational program registered by the New York State Education Department or a program determined by the Department to be equivalent to a registered program.
When travel is required: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
