Job Description and Duties
THIS IS A STATEWIDE RECRUITMENT. THE INCUMBENT WILL BE HEADQUARTERED IN THE COUNTY NEAREST THE RESIDENCE OF THE SELECTED CANDIDATE. THE COUNTIES ARE: Sacramento and Contra Costa.
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by optimizing data and technology through improving collection and reporting of data from the CalREDIE program. The Research Scientist Supervisor II (RSS II) serves as Chief for the CalREDIE Surveillance Section, comprised of the SaPHIRE Unit (Lab Reporting and Quality Analytics Team) and the Electronic Case Reporting Unit. The RSS II coordinates and directs the development of plans, operational procedures, guidelines and recommendations, and education/trainings to improve the data received through SaPHIRE and CalREDIE for communicable disease surveillance. This position is required to travel up to 10%.
The candidate works under the broad administrative direction of the Research Scientist Manager (RSM), Chief of Communicable Disease Emergency Response Branch.
Candidates in this classification, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.
Candidates in this classification, who have evidence of being accepted for an examination for a Medical Specialty Certificate or Osteopathic Specialty Certificate shall receive 15.5% of monthly base salary. Incumbents in one of these classifications, who have evidence of being certified by an American Medical Specialty Board or American Osteopathic Specialty Board will receive 19.0% of monthly base salary.

At least 5 years working on communicable disease surveillance
Experience working with public health information systems (laboratory data, electronic health records, surveillance data)
At least 2 years of management experience
Experience developing and writing funding proposals
