Your work in this position is essential for safeguarding the rights of employees, ensuring they receive legally protected leave and reasonable accommodations to which they are entitled. As part of your responsibilities, you'll be supporting the Reasonable Accommodations and Protected Leave Manager in ensuring strict adherence to Collective Bargaining Agreements, federal and state laws, as well as agency policies. Your assistance will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with the specified timeframes outlined in both state and federal statutes. This involves the prompt and accurate processing of protected leaves, as well as aiding in the timely acquisition of medical documentation from healthcare providers when necessary.
You'll serve as a vital link between DOH management, employees, and agency partners, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. In this position you will play a pivotal role in creating a workplace where employees' rights and well-being are protected, and where we all contribute to a healthier Washington state.
Responsibilities:
Manage the agency's protected leave program, including FMLA, PFML, Shared Leave, Parental Leave, Pregnancy Disability Leave, and other protected leaves.
Process leave requests, review medical documents, and determine eligibility.
Offer guidance to employees and supervisors on protected leave policies.
Maintain accurate records and provide timely updates.
Assist in administering the reasonable accommodation program.
Process requests, communicate with medical providers, and ensure compliance.
Provide initial consultations to employees on reasonable accommodation.
Help identify suitable resources when required.
Support the management of employee injury and L&I programs.
Ensure programs are up to date and regulatory compliant.
Assist with document preparation, scheduling meetings, and liaising with relevant authorities.
Aid in managing the Infant at Work program, including paperwork and tracking.
Required Qualifications:

Option 1: Five (5) or more years of Human Resource experience providing guidance and making recommendations on general Human Resource issues.
Option 2: Three (3) or more years of human resource experience relating to protected leaves and/or reasonable accommodation within a Washington State Government Agency at the Human Resource Consultant 2 level or above, or equivalent.
Required Skills and Experience
Experience in applying an equity and inclusion lens to internal processes and procedures.
Demonstrated Proficiency in analyzing and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness and making a recommendation based upon the analysis.
Proficient in comprehending and interpreting laws and policies and providing informed advice in those domains.
