Purpose of Position: The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator works independently to perform consultative and administrative work in strategic planning and implementation of a Public Health Emergency Preparedness program for the Health Department. The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator performs disease surveillance, data collection, data analysis, and presents findings to upper management along with recommendations for strategies and/or interventions to prepare Pitt County for public health emergency responses. This position is also responsible for developing and organizing preparedness exercises and drills for health department staff and collaborative agencies to ensure public health readiness in the event of a public health emergency and/or disaster. Work also involves preparing and selecting educational programs and materials to promote emergency preparedness among staff, partners, and the general community. This position works collaboratively among other Pitt County Government Departments and other community agencies to ensure united responses during emergencies and disasters within Pitt County.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the analytical planning techniques applied in the research and analysis of information pertaining to governmental programs and operations. General knowledge of the services offered by State and local agencies. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of specialized emergency management planning, research, analysis, community services or emergency services experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum Training and Experience for Trainee Appointment – Graduation from a four-year college or university; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities. Must have a valid North Carolina driver's license. Proof of measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella immunity.
