DESCRIPTION:
This position serves as a clinical medical office assistant at the Ashe County office of AppHealthCare. This position will fill a critical role by providing support in AppHealthCare’s clinical service programs. The selected employee will report to the Medical Assistant Supervisor.
The employee will verify patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and confirming the purpose of the visit. Prepare patients for examination by performing vital signs, height, weight, vision, and hearing screenings; assist nurses and physicians in the clinic with standard assignments such as patient interviews, form preparation, data entry, patient exams, specimen collection, and standard care procedures. Perform laboratory functions such as waived and moderately complex testing, finger sticks, and venipuncture; prepare specimens for microscopic viewing and/or transport to an outside lab. Maintain and monitor the Quality Control manual and reference lab logs. The employee will participate in the Quality Assurance Program, i.e. continuing education, proficiency testing, preventative maintenance of equipment, etc. under the supervision of the medical laboratory supervisor. In addition, the employee will assist in ordering and maintaining a stock of clinic and lab supplies, verifying receipt, and be responsible for assuring supplies are organized and readily available. The employee’s responsibility will also include keeping the patient waiting area, exam rooms, and assigned work areas neat and clean Additional duties may include assistance to clerical and/or clinical staff consisting of follow-up calls to patients and data entry.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicant must have a comfortable working knowledge of computer use and have basic email skills. Excellent verbal communication skills are essential for this position in interacting with clients, coworkers, and other community stakeholders. This position will require a high-energy employee who is willing to prioritize customer service and clinic efficiency and can deliver culturally sensitive quality care in their daily work.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High school or General Educational Development diploma, completion of a one-year formal training course in medical office assisting at a community college or technical institute; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and a combination of one year of clerical and health/dental related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
