Job Description and Duties
Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master’s Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master’s and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

The Coronavirus Science Branch (CSB) coordinates and provides guidance on statewide COVID-19 case-reporting, surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, laboratory testing, and on clinical and infection control issues. The Branch works closely with other Teams to help produce various daily reports for CDPH leadership and other stakeholders; these are often fast moving and changing as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves. The CSB works closely with local health departments, other state teams and agencies, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on COVID-19 surveillance and response. It is also poised to expand to other epidemics as they may emerge.
The Research Scientist II (RS II), within the CSB Genomics Section, will provide epidemiological, analytical, and statistical support for the coordination, analysis, and surveillance of COVID-19 genomic data. The RS II is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing epidemiology and genomic surveillance studies and analyses to investigate COVID-19 disease. The RS II has direct responsibility, in collaboration with other CDPH teams, to plan, organize, analyze, interpret, and disseminate COVID-19 genomic surveillance information to internal and external stakeholders.
This is a 12 month Limited-Term Full-Time position that may be extended or become Permanent.
