Purpose of Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a role model and support person for pregnant women and new mothers.  The counselor provides education and support to women who plan to breastfeed or are currently breastfeeding. (Breastfeeding experience preferred)  The job involves: Providing support and encouragement to prenatal and breastfeeding women participating in the WIC program; assisting a breastfeeding specialist in teaching classes on breastfeeding; co-leading breastfeeding support group meetings; counseling women on basic lactation management; being an advocate for breastfeeding women in the health care system, community and work places; being a partner with health care professionals to promote breastfeeding.
