Job Responsibilities:
The Asthma Health Educator will work in the school & community setting in and around Macon, Georgia to provide Asthma Self-Management Education (AS-ME) to children with asthma. The Asthma Health Educator will utilize evidence-based curricula, such as Kickin’ Asthma™ and Open Airways for Schools™, to teach participants about asthma basics, triggers, trigger control, medication, and self-management. The Asthma Health Educator will also ensure participants receive informational and educational materials and referrals to community resources, including smoking cessation information.
Programmatic Reporting to the Asthma Team Lead, the Asthma Health Educator will:
Participate in curriculum training, asthma training, and any additional training deemed necessary by DPH
Implement asthma self-management education curricula Kickin’ Asthma™ and Open Airways for Schools™ in schools and community settings
Collaborate with schools and community settings to collect performance measures prior to, during, and upon completion of implementation
Collaborate with staff from school and community settings on an as needed basis to ensure program goals and deliverables are being met
Provide resources and references to parents/caregivers of children with asthma to achieve better asthma self-management
Master's degree in public health education from an accredited college or university AND One year of public health education experience,
OR
Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience in public health education.

Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Adobe)
