This position is in the Medical Consultation Unit of the Communicable Disease Branch, a subordinate agency of the Epidemiology Section of the Division of Public Health. The person in this position will serve as Medical Director for the North Carolina SHARPPS (Surveillance for Healthcare and Antibiotic Resistant Pathogens and Patient Safety) Program. The person in this position will work in collaboration with Communicable Disease Branch personnel, SHARPPS program director and staff to provide consultation to infection prevention and control partners, hospital epidemiologists, clinicians, local health departments, laboratories, citizens, media, and others regarding prevention of and response to healthcare associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistant pathogens.  The person in t
