Under general supervision by the Lead APRN and Preventive Health Program Manager, provides primary and secondary health services for individuals and families presenting to the public health department for care in the areas of women's and men's health, including family planning and STD/HIV. Practices and prescribes as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (NP) according to and in compliance with the legal authority granted under the Nurse Practice Act of South Carolina, including the use of approved written protocols developed with a collaborating physician to guide practice. Establishes and monitors clinical practice quality in area of specialty.
Population Focused Care Assesses the health of male and female patients seeking preventive health services per program policy and protocols.
Performs examinations, including physical and screening for psychosocial problems per program policy and protocols.
Provides care for patients at risk or with complex reproductive health needs and refers appropriately.
Develops contraceptive plans including insertion and removal of LARCs; Develops treatment plans for identified health problems according to protocols & refers patients as appropriate.
Participates in disaster preparedness during hazardous weather or declaration of emergency as outlined in the DHEC Emergency plans, to include staffing of shelters on site or in other areas of the state.
Population Focused Education Provides in-depth education regarding health care issues to individuals, families and groups.
Teaches, counsels and monitors the treatment regimen in selected populations.
Continuous Quality Improvement/Leadership Plans, implements, and evaluates clinical orientation and continuing education for PH nurses.
Serves as preceptor and role model to preventive health nurses and nurse practitioner students.
Provides consultation to preventive health nursing staff.
Provides educational offerings at local and/or state level.
Leadership Demonstrates leadership in advancing clinical knowledge in the area of specialty in a culturally competent manner.
Serves as a role model to nursing staff and students. Serves as preceptor for student NP and student RN rotations in public health and assists in coordinating student learning experiences.
Participates in peer reviews.
Maintains clinical and prescriptive competency and national board certification in area of specialization.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience. Positions in this classification require licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the South Carolina Board of Nursing (Board). Some positions require a valid driver's license. Some positions require prescriptive authority per the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act, Section 40-33-34.
Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
Agency Additional Requirements: A masters degree in nursing and license in good standing as a prescribing Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (NP) in Women's Health, Adult Health, or Family Practice. Must be able and willing to participate in disaster preparedness activities as outlined in the DHEC Region Emergency Preparedness Plan.
Nationally board certified in specialty area and licensed or eligible for licensure as a prescribing NP in South Carolina. Skilled in interviewing, history taking, and conducting health assessments. Able to identify deviations from normal and make appropriate clinical decisions. Skilled in education and counseling techniques. Aware of and able to partner with pertinent community resources.. Able to collaborate with other health professionals and to serve as a role model/ preceptor for nursing staff and student NPs. Able to evaluate quality of clinical practice and implement change. Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Current driver's license; may be required to use personal vehicle in the performance of duties. Provide CPR certification within first 6 months of employment, with renewal as required. Required immunizations up to date. Ability to work flexible hours and in various settings. Ability to lift 15 lbs.

REMOTE WORK: The option to work partially remote is available after six (6) months of employment.
