Under the direction of the Communicable Disease Service, this position assists with response to reportable vector-borne disease reports, including Lyme disease and other tick and mosquito-borne diseases (e.g., (Babesiosis, Spotted Fever Group Rickettsiosis, Ehrlichiosis, West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis, Powassan) in order to protect the health of the citizens of New Jersey. Assist the COVID-19 Data Team to review and classify cases in the Communicable Disease Reporting and Surveillance System, to update missing information, including address and contact information, assist in merging duplicate cases, and help with other data cleaning needs. Provides assistance to clinicians and hospital partners to provide specialized testing at the Public Health and Environmental Laboratory. Ensures testing requests meet criteria and are accompanied by appropriate laboratory test requisition forms. Works with clinicians and local health departments to collect clinical case histories and diagnostic testing information for COVID-19 and vector-borne diseases. Reviews case information and share information with local health department staff to improve case investigation and classification. Assists the Infectious & Zoonotic Disease Program in ensuring that New Jersey and CDC reporting requirements are met, maintaining statistics on communicable diseases, and providing general programmatic support.y and CDC reporting requirements are met, maintains statistics on vector-borne diseases, and provides general programmatic support.
ADVANCEMENT: Appointees who successfully complete the 12-month training period will be eligible for promotion to the title among the following for which they have been trained: Public Health Representative 3, Public Health Representative 3 Communicable Disease, Public Health Representative 3 Certified Tumor Registrar. The inability of an employee in this trainee title to attain a level of performance warranting advancement to a title listed above shall be considered as cause for separation.
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
LICENSE: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
