This is temporary or hourly paid work performing general support services. Positions in this job are established for less than 9 months or scheduled for less than 30 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits if the position status is temporary (i.e., SCOA 513). Positions in this job are established for greater than 9 months and scheduled for greater than 30 hours per week if the position status is permanent labor (i.e., SCOA 512). Normally permanent labor positions are eligible for Health Insurance benefits.
Job Responsibilities:
Conducts HIV/AIDS disease surveillance; working very closely with public health districts, medical providers, HIV community based organizations, and hospitals to obtain HIV/AIDS case report information.
Participate in special surveys and research projects related to HIV notifiable disease epidemiology.
Offer consultation and assistance for proper follow-up to local health care providers.
Offer routine feedback within the HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Section, with public health program, with district and county agencies, with private entities and non-governmental agencies.
Provides consultation and technical assistance as needed to providers about HIV/AIDS case reporting and surveillance.
Assists in the design, implementation and maintenance of disease surveillance systems.
Participates with data quality efforts as needed
Performs various duties in support of section operations.
Travel throughout the surveillance region to conduct HIV/AIDS surveillance will be a core function of this position.
Travel to Atlanta, GA home office when needed to attend meetings for HIV/AIDS Surveillance
Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a degree in Public Health or a closely related field OR Completion of a Bachelor's degree in any field AND two years of experience performing disease surveillance work or work in a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the entry qualifications possess 3 or more of the following:
Education and experience in conducting disease surveillance.
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS or STD and/or other infectious disease
Degree in Public Health or a closely related field
