As the Advisory Laboratorian and member of the Medical Test Site team, you will support the Department of Heath’s (DOH) mission to protect and improve the health of people in the state of Washington. You will accomplish this by using your professional and technical expertise conducting inspections and investigations in medical test sites by determining ongoing compliance with State regulations (70.42 RCW, 246-338WAC). The position:
Conducts on-site reviews of records, procedures, staff, etc. to determine if a plan of correction is needed.
Reviews and approves plans of correction submitted by facilities, follows up with inspection to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented as needed.
Provides technical assistance to testing facilities regarding laws, rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Investigates complaints made against testing facilities to determine validity of complaint.
This recruitment will be used to fill multiple full-time, permanent Advisory Laboratorian positions in the Office of Health Systems Oversight, Division of Health Systems Quality Assurance.
The duty station could vary for these positions and may be assigned to either Tumwater, WA or Spokane, WA. Telework (mobile work) is currently an option. When approved, the incumbent is expected to report to the duty station for work activities as the work requires. Partial telecommuting may be an option subject to supervisory approval.These positions are expected to travel throughout the state of Washington.

Note: Experience defined below may have been gained through lived experience, volunteer experience, professional paid experience, or a combination of experiences.
Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health, or a closely allied field; AND six (6) years of clinical laboratory experience, which includes one (1) year of supervisory, consultative, or surveying experience.
Option 2: A Master’s degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, medical technology, public health, or a closely allied field; AND four (4) years of clinical laboratory experience, which includes one (1) year of supervisory, consultative, or surveying experience.
National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
Demonstrated experience using the following Microsoft Office software:
MS Word to create, format, edit, preview, print, and save documents.
MS Outlook to compose, send and respond to electronic mail, update calendar, and create meeting requests.
MS Excel or Access to input data, design and create reports containing table relationships and look up fields, apply advanced filters and queries.
