This position will serve as the Statewide Medical Director in the HIV/STI/Viral Hepatitis section. The position has ultimate oversight of all program areas including leadership and oversight of cross-cutting programs related to End the Syndemic Tennessee (https://endthesyndemictn.org/) to tackle HIV, sexually transmitted infections, viral hepatitis and substance use disorder in an integrated manner with an outward-facing, community-engaged process. This position will supervise and provide mentorship to the directors of the HIV, STI and Viral Hepatitis programs.The section also works with and approves community-based organizations providing syringe services and other harm reduction activities statewide. The incumbent will have the opportunity to overlap with the retiring Medical Director until August 2023. The incumbent will utilize data to guide program and policy development and will provide clinical and programmatic oversight for the implementation of all related prevention and treatment activities. Requires management and leadership skills. Provision of adult HIV patient care two days per month in a Ryan White HIV Center of Excellence is possible if desired, but not required. This program is in the Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Communicable and Environmental Diseases and Emergency Preparedness (CEDEP). The Division includes a wide range of programs, including immunizations, healthcare-associated infections, TB, environmental health, emergency preparedness, and general communicable diseases.
Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs to prevent HIV, STI and viral hepatitis infections and reduce the morbidity and mortality related to existing infections.
Oversee data analyses, surveillance, and investigation of molecular clusters and other outbreaks.
Contribute to harm-reduction efforts in Tennessee.
Provide clinical subject matter expertise and the directors of STI, Viral Hepatitis, HIV and the Ryan White Part B programs to enhance cross-cutting, collaborative efforts.
Seek and oversee the preparation of state and federal funding applications.
Oversee a multimillion-dollar budget and large, dedicated and talented team.
Serve as liaison with local health departments, state and national governmental agencies, and academic and community-based providers regarding HIV/STI/Viral hepatitis-related issues throughout Tennessee.
