Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cambridge, MA for Harvard University

The Center for Climate, Health, and the Global Environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Harvard Chan C-CHANGE) invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to begin immediately in its Energy and Health program.

The Project:

Cutting methane emissions from oil and gas production is a crucial short-term strategy to mitigate climate change. Since methane is a powerful climate pollutant but has a short atmospheric lifetime, reducing emissions now can reduce warming in the short-term, buying more time for longer-term carbon reduction strategies. Methane reductions benefit health by reducing regional fine particulate matter and ozone, two pollutants with large burdens of mortality, asthma, and other health outcomes. We are looking for a Research Fellow to perform health impact analyses as part of our project to evaluate the health benefits of different government policies to reduce emissions from oil and gas production.

The Team:

We are a multi-institutional collaborative across Harvard Chan C-CHANGE, the University of North Carolina (UNC) and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF). The team is composed of risk, exposure, and health impact assessment experts, atmospheric scientists, epidemiologists, and engineers. We all share an interest in ensuring that climate policies are developed that are also health, equity, and environmental justice forward.

Harvard Chan C-CHANGE performs research on the health impacts of the energy industry and climate policy, and translates the innovative research from faculty and students across the Harvard Chan School into actions that improve public health today and create a more just, sustainable and healthy future for all. Basic Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in environmental health, public health, atmospheric/environmental sciences or engineering, or related field

Additional Qualifications:

Strong data analysis/science/statistical skills
Experience working with geographical information systems (GIS)
Ability to work independently
Strong writing and communication skills
Previous experience with quantitative health impact assessment of air pollution
Familiarity with the R programming language
Familiarity with BenMAP
Experience working with large interdisciplinary teams
