Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Career Management Specialist for the Office of Career Exploration and Success. Reporting to the Associate Director of Career Interest Communities, the Career Management Specialist is an integral part of the development and implementation of the career community ecosystem. The role includes overseeing the career interest communities, managing campus partner advisory boards, connecting students with exploration and networking opportunities through alumni mentorship and engagement, and providing tailored programming and advising services. The Career Management Specialist will oversee the Education, Human Services, and Non-Proﬁt Career Community, the Law; Public Health, Policy, and Safety Career Community, and more.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Recruits and leads a group of community partners to serve on their career community advisory boards.
Provides front-line advising services for students and alumni within their communities and for the general population.
Advises students regarding self-discovery, career and academic exploration, skills development, and pursuit of graduate studies and employment. This includes all advising modes such as drop-ins at various campus locations, individual appointments, etc.
Presents a minimum number of career journey programs per year associated with their career communities.
Presents a minimum number of requested programs from faculty, staff (both internal and external to CES), and organizations associated with their community.
Directly manages a signature event each semester for their identiﬁed career communities.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or related experiences.
A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience in advising/career development, college student personnel, higher education administration, social work, or a similar program.
A master's degree and experience within career services or higher education setting are preferred.
Industry experience connected with either career community is also preferred.
Career assessments, online career planning tools (e.g., Goinglobal, Traitify, Firsthand, Interviewstream, etc.), Handshake or similar career management systems.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be willing and available to work some nights and weekends as well as travel when needed.
