The Department of Medicine, Division of GIM, has an opportunity for a Research Coordinator to work under the supervision of Dr. Rashmi Sharma.  This position will help oversee the implementation and management of a 5-year NIH-funded R01 study that seeks to identify barriers to palliative care for older adults with dementia and limited-English proficiency.

This study will focus on Latinx, Chinese, and Vietnamese communities in the greater Seattle area and will utilize quantitative and qualitative methods to explore factors across multiple levels (individual, clinical encounter, health system, community) that contribute to inequities in care for these populations.

The University of Washington's Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) is considered to be among the top five Divisions of General Internal Medicine in the nation. General Internal Medicine, established in 1985, has rapidly grown to be the largest Division in the UW Department of Medicine. The Division has a workforce of approximately 500, including nearly 400 faculty members who are known for their outstanding research, teaching and patient care. The Division conducts its activities at the UW Medical Center (UWMC), Harborview Medical Center (HMC), and the VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and Boise, with research sites located at multiple sites across Seattle.

GIM has an annual budget of over $80 million including over 30 research faculty, 30 current grants and $15 million in annual grant expenditures. The Division's Clinical Practice at HMC and UWMC generates gross billings of over $14 million annually with nearly 200 faculty members participating in direct patient care. Faculty and staff are spread between 10 sites; including Harborview, Metropolitan Park, Pat Steel, the University District, and Fremont, with 90 staff spread amongst these locations.            

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct data collection and human subjects research activities in accordance with IRB regulations (recruit, screen, consent participants) and conduct qualitative interviews; Coordinate with interpreter services as needed

Collaborate with research team to code qualitative data; perform chart reviews; track and archive data and research results; and provide data reports

Provide project management to keep project activities within scope, timeline, and budget; track project milestones; and coordinate the preparation and submission of progress reports to the NIH; develop and submit Institutional Review Board applications and ensure compliance with human subjects requirements

Collaborate with research team on development and testing of project materials including recruitment flyers and qualitative interview guides, engage community partners as appropriate; manage relationships with Community Advisory Board members and internal and external stakeholders

Coordinate and participate in investigator, study team, and partner meetings; develop agendas and track action items

Coordinate and contribute to preparation and submission of presentations, abstracts, and manuscripts

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences and/or related field and 2 years' experience

Additional Requirements:

This position requires program manager and research experience.

The supervisor must have confidence in the processes used and work products of this individual and must be able to rely on their ability to prioritize tasks, work in a collaborative environment, and move projects forward with professionalism, accuracy, and timeliness.  

Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills   

A detail-oriented, proactive, and flexible approach to work

Ability to communicate well with people from diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic, and professional backgrounds

Experience working with academic investigators and researchers, members of community based organizations

Ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team

Experience with qualitative research methods, conducting interviews, and coding and analyzing data using qualitative software (e.g., MaxQDA, Atlas.ti, NVivo)

Prior program management experience   

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Outlook

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED

Master’s degree in public health, social services, or allied health professions   

Experience working with Latinx, Chinese, or Vietnamese communities 

Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese language fluency

Experience working with older adults, people living with dementia, or other populations with serious illness    

Experience with regulatory approvals and contract agreements related to data activities

Experience interfacing with interpreter services in research or patient/client care activities

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The position will be based primarily at UWMC-Montlake in the Health Sciences building with opportunities for a hybrid teleworking-office model
