Our 10-week Summer Internship Program is an ideal way for both undergraduate and graduate students to gain real-life work experience while learning what a career at Blue Shield of California can offer. Interns work on real-world projects and initiatives while being immersed in all aspects of our business. From interacting with senior leadership to visiting a neighborhood health clinic, interns will build a better understanding of the diversity and complexities of working in the dynamic world of healthcare. Our goal is to build a talent pipeline that will help us grow our company into the future.
The Talent Pipeline Summer Intern role was designed to offer our leaders a variety in talent skillset while growing the next generation of Blue Shield leaders from within. As a Talent Pipeline Summer Intern, you will be screened, interviewed, hired and evaluated in key operational and strategic roles that will be determined post-hire, based on these assessments. Depending on both business need and your strengths and experience, you could be placed in any one of the following lines of business:
Corporate (HR, Finance, Internal Communications)
Health Care Quality and Affordability
Markets (Sales and Marketing)
Upon completion of the internship program, you may be eligible to participate in other talent pipeline programs.
Knowledge and Experience
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited college/university in a relevant discipline - Business, Public Health or similar preferred.
Currently enrolled in a Master’s program at an accredited college/university in a relevant discipline - Business, Public Health or similar preferred.
1-3 years of working experience (supervisory and leadership experience a plus)
Background and/or emphasis in one or more key business areas:
Health care (e.g., quality, clinical, pharmacy, public health)
Information Technology (software, hardware, digital design, enterprise architecture)
Customer service or support
Passionate - about our mission to ensure all Californians have access to high-quality health care at an affordable price - and about helping to create the future of healthcare
Capacity to be a change agent, demonstrating persistence and resilience when faced with challenges; a high level of flexibility
Strong written & oral business communication skills
Demonstrated learning agility and ability to quickly come up to speed in a fast-paced business environment
Ability to quickly develop productive relationships with colleagues and management
Aspiration to continuously learn and grow your career at an accelerated pace
Willingness to roll up your sleeves and dig into the details
Track record of getting high-quality results in a complex and fast-paced environment, while demonstrating interpersonal awareness and self-management
Collaborates well with all levels of an organization on complex projects, equally capable as a project leader or a member of the team
Basic project management skills, including use of project management tools and discipline to organize the work and deliver on time and on budget
High level of proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Must be willing and able to relocate at own expense. All summer intern candidates MUST reside in California by the start of the program.
