The Transplant Research Program, Division of Nephrology is looking for a Research Assistant III with a strong background in Immunology, experience performing in vitro cell culture assays and standard readouts such as ELISA, ELISPOT, FACS and/or qPCR. Knowledge and/or use of molecular biology techniques such as transfection is desirable but not required. The applicant will take on a leadership role in the laboratory and will be supervised by a Senior Postdoc and directly report to the Director of the Transplant Research Program. S/he is expected to independently perform sophisticated and complex experiments in consultation with the supervising Postdoc. The ideal candidate may also have experience using in vivo models, however, this is not required. It is expected that applicants will dedicate a minimum of 2 years to the lab. It is essential that the candidate is able to plan and organize work independently, communicate clearly and effectively both in person and electronically, and has a strong collaborative mindset to advance ongoing projects in the laboratory.
This Research Assistant III will be responsible for:
Troubleshoot procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings. Perform techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
Assist with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develop and troubleshoot new techniques specific to the lab.
Maintain accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compile and help analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
Demonstrate basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students.
Independently decides which techniques may be appropriate for specific experimental investigations and carries out those experiments with minimal supervision or independently.
Critically evaluates experimental results independently and provides summaries or interpretation of results to PI.
Coaches RA I and RA II, interns, Co Ops on basic lab techniques.
Calculates, graphs and compiles data obtained, maintaining records and logs of work performed; uses computer to perform statistical analyses.
Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree, AND a minimum three years of relevant experience OR Master's of Science AND one year of relevant work experience
The analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge
The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
