This position is in the Department of Social Work. The position is located at Hillman Hall. This position is for the Danforth Campus. Ability to travel to on- and off-campus locations.
Essential Functions:
POSITION SUMMARY: Plays a leadership role in executing the Buder Center’s strategic plan and implement program changes based on evaluation and reporting, and collaborate with campus and community partners to support the missions of the Center, with a particular focus on their impact as related to recruitment, retention, and research. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responsible for recruiting American Indian/Alaska Native students and providing academic, financial, and career advising in Indian Country, which will encompass travel on a regular basis. Monitoring and tracking students through the Student Information System (SIS). Assisting students in navigating campus resources for retention and success. Scheduling, planning, coordinating, and attending on and off campus recruiting events.
- Provide education experiences and training programs from orientation to more advanced professional development programs. Work in collaboration with other offices throughout the University to advance strategic initiatives related to diversity and inclusion, professional development seminars, and student initiatives. Work with a wide variety of constituents in the Brown School to assess programmatic needs that support American Indian/Alaska Native initiatives.
- Serve as a representative of the Buder Center, in the absence of the Director. Work collaboratively with tribal colleges/universities and engage in field liaison work such as initiating, establishing, and maintaining relationships with American Indian/Alaska Native constituents important to Buder Center work which includes engaging in outreach and community relationship development (may require travel) and performing ceremonies such as a smudging ceremony for a blessing and Pow Wows.
- Contributes to proposals and grant applications and performance of responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, and responding to funding opportunities for the Buder Center’s missions and goals. Assist in the collection and analysis of project data. Develop reports to summarize project results. Prepare articles, reports, and presentations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree and three years professional experience in student affairs or related field.
- Individual must have experience in communicating with tribal leaders and community members; knowledgeable of AI/AN ceremonies, understanding the protocols when working with AI/AN elders and strong skill sets when preparing students for the workforce in Indian Country.
- Have experience in American Indian/Alaska Native communities and multicultural affairs/initiatives.
- Knowledge of research and grant writing.
- Experience in providing programming and training around social work and public health education.
- Experience with working with students in highly selective academic environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in social work.
- Prior experience working with American Indian community.
- Strong research methods skills and a high degree of proficiency with literature review system (psych literature, ERIC, etc.).
- One year of experience in a research setting.
- Personable, flexible, organized, and comfortable in a project management position.
- Experience with a variety of computer programs (statistical, video, web design, etc.).�
- Knowledge of APA formatting.
- Strong writing and computer skills and knowledge of current search databases.
- Ability to plan, oversee, and track multiple projects.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in dealing with students, administrative personnel, and faculty, as well as contacts at other institutions and tribal communities while maintaining confidentiality.
- Capability of working with a variety of communities and university/department staff.
- Interest in working with American Indian students and representatives.
Salary Range:
The hiring range for this position is $44,986 - $57,369 annually.
