Position DetailsThe Department of Population Health Sciences (DPHS) at Geisinger seeks to recruit a health economist whose work focuses on quantitative studies across a range of substantive and/or methodological areas related to population health and healthcare delivery evaluation. Appointment is at the rank of associate or assistant professor with responsibilities to advance research and service in population health. The candidate must possess an earned doctorate (PhD or MD) in one of the following disciplines or a closely related field (health economics, public health, health policy, or health services research). The candidate must also have proven experience and expertise as a health economist in one or more of the following areas: access to health care and the role of insurance coverage; health outcomes including the effects of provider payments and delivery system reforms on health care costs and quality; and the impact of health policies on health and health care. This may include impact evaluation of quality improvement and interventions from a health system or health plan perspective including quality, clinical outcomes, member experience, and financial impact; or evaluation of healthcare delivery interventions/innovations. Experience in engagement with health plan using large observational data sets, combining claims and electronic medical records (EMR) data is desired. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and independent externally funded research program and collaborate with colleagues; and provide service to the health system, profession, and community. Applicants seeking appointment at the associate level must have at least 5 years of prior experience in a similar position in addition to a record of extramural grant funding as a Principal or Co-Investigator and publication of peer-reviewed collaborative research. Faculty in the Department of Population Health Sciences are expected to contribute to the research, educational, and service missions of the department and the broader Geisinger system. The DPHS consists of 15 faculty members with expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, genomics, and health economics. Our research leverages the EMR resources at Geisinger that dates back to 1996 and claims data from our health plan.
