Nature of Work
The person in this position will serve as a member of the Outbreak Team for the Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, which is the lead response division in the regard to new or emerging public threats. This requires development of new procedures to be able to respond to emerging threats. The person in this position will work to provide more depth to the program's ability to respond to emerging infectious conditions. This position provides support to the Outbreak Team by managing outbreaks reported by local health departments. They will assist in developing and updating standard operating procedures for communicable disease outbreaks (E.G., Zika, Ebola, Covid-19). The emerging infectious disease epidemiologist will advise local health departments in outbreak management, including collection of specimens, line lists, conducting interviews, completing forms and infection control measures. They will participate in the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for communicable disease outbreaks in a variety of settings, with particular focus on emerging infectious conditions. The person in this position will work with outbreak nurse epidemiologists to collect, enter, clean and analyze outbreak-related data using statistical software (Epi info and Excel) in order to generate monthly reports or summaries, ad hoc data requests for outbreak data, and other data requests as needed. They will provide education on outbreak management to a variety of audiences and assist with outbreak trainings. They will be expected to stay up to date on literature and attend educational webinars, meetings and trainings. They will work in rotation with other infectious disease epidemiologists to provide cross-coverage consultation and outbreak response and emergency response as needed.
