The staff biostatistician will provide biostatistics and study design support to health sciences investigators as a member of the Biostatistics & Design Program (BDP) and the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design program in the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI). General responsibilities include providing study design and methodology guidance, as well data management, programming and statistical analysis activities for internal and external reports, manuscripts and other publications. Statistical activities related to grant preparation, including power and sample size calculations/simulation will be required, as well as providing guidance/mentoring to clinical/translational science investigators. Incumbent will collaborate directly (via FTE arrangement) with investigators in the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences at OHSU, supporting their research portfolio, which includes clinical, translational and population science studies. This position involves significant interaction with clients (investigators and research teams), which requires excellent and effective oral and written communication skills. For example, the incumbent should be able to explain complex statistical concepts and results to biomedical researchers with little statistical training. The incumbent is expected to learn new statistical methods and keep up with newer statistical methods, and contribute to professional development activities of staff colleagues in the BDP. Opportunities to teach in short courses and workshops will be available.Experience with clinical and observational studies necessary, and familiarity with statistical techniques for longitudinal data and time series strongly desired. Designation at the Biostatistician II or Senior Biostatistician I will be dependent on the amount of relevant experience, publications and research products, plus degree of oversight required by supervising faculty. The position reports directly to Dr. Jodi Lapidus, Professor of Biostatistics, OHSU-PSU School of Public Health and Director, Biostatistics & Design Program.
Working conditions: Typical work schedule 8-5, Monday-Friday. Some occasional evening and weekend hours may be necessary. Physical demands & equipment usage: Travel on OHSU tram or to other OHSU or OHSU partner sites may be required for a meeting with investigators located at those sites. Approximately 50% time will be spent in the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, which will require spending some time in offices on OHSU Marquam Hill campus; this percentage may fluctuate over time.
