Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV for the Immunology Oncology department at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ). Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, assists with technical laboratory procedures and analyses in support of the specialized research activities of the laboratory. As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory. Maintains cell cultures and cell line stocks, conduct flow cytometry and molecular biology experiments (DNA and RNA analysis, cloning, gene expression analysis, protein analysis). Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Performs professional and scientific research in the areas of tumor immunology and cancer immunotherapy,
especially with detailed knowledge of T cell biology, antigen presentation, T cell receptors and cellular therapy. This research includes cell culture, transduction, transfection, retroviruses, lentiviruses, construction of vectors and DNA cloning, flow cytometry, cytolysis assays, cytokine assays, proliferation assays, PCR, analysis of human samples, and murine tumor models. - Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures suggesting revisions where necessary, and proposing new
procedures where required. - Assists with training fellows, students and lab technicians in laboratory techniques as directed.
- Maintains records, files and laboratory research databases.
- Responsible for laboratory specimen tracking, processing, organization, and analysis, maintain detailed
records of all experiments and activities.
Minimum Education and Experience: - Master’s Degree in a relevant social science or related field (e.g. psychology, social work, public health or social science) or a Bachelor’s Degree plus one (1) year of relevant research experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Demonstrated strong organizational skills with assigned laboratory work and technical methods, with attention to detail and an ability to set priorities for productivity.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow laboratory safety policies and perform standard laboratory procedures.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications: - Prior research experience in tumor immunology and/or cell therapy and animal study strongly preferred.
