Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Epidemiologist for the department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology within the School of Public Health. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Epidemiologist will work with the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) to conduct surveillance and investigation of diseases and provide epidemiologic support to local health departments (LHDs), health care facilities and other public health partners in New Jersey.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

• Participates in surveillance activities for the assigned disease management program.
• Participates in epidemiologic investigations.
• Presents, publishes, and disseminates data and epidemiologic findings.
• Provides consultation on communicable diseases to public health partners, such as local health departments, health care facilities, and laboratories.
• Prepares scientific manuscripts, reports, and presentations related to epidemiologic evaluations and surveillance.
• Provides on-call coverage for Communicable Disease Services (CDS) after hours service on a rotating basis, as directed.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Master of Public Health (MPH) degree or related field (a concentration in Epidemiology preferred) plus two (2) years of experience in health or research.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must have strong interpersonal skills and experience being a team player.
• Proficiency in data management and statistical analysis programs (e.g., SAS, Excel, Access). Provides on-call coverage for Communicable Disease Services (CDS) after hours service on a rotating basis, as directed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with communicable disease investigations or prevention.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Lifting of up to 10 pounds. Hearing is essential.

Special Conditions:

• Access to a vehicle for transportation is required.
