DESCRIPTION
This position will be dedicated to the reduction of workplace-related injuries within UC San Diego Health. The ideal applicant will apply professional knowledge and expertise for Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPH&M) as a specialty area within EH&S-Injury Prevention.
This SPH&M Coordinator will serve as a lead person in the implementation, coordination, maintenance, and support of activities related to safe patient handling and mobilization across services and disciplines throughout all UC San Diego Health locations. As part of the Injury and Illness Prevention team, core job duties will include:
Facilitation as a Champion/Superuser of training utilizing available SPH&M equipment,
Follow-up on all patient-handling work-related injury reports, and identify opportunities for injury prevention;
Develop and administer training and education materials that will support the standardization of SPH&M implementation across all disciplines and UC San Diego Health locations.
Chair the collaboration between stakeholders through the development of a Safe Patient Handling Workgroup.
Assist patient care units in developing and implementing an effective SPHM plan.
As part of the Injury Prevention team, will participate in support of other programs as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, public health or related area, and / or equivalent combination of experience / training.
Three or more years of relevant experience.
Minimum two years of recent pertinent clinical expertise necessary to perform safe patient handling.
Regulatory Knowledge of AB 1136 and CCR Title 8 Section 5120.
Competency in the safe use of powered and non-powered patient mobilization equipment and supplies.
Ability to manage, deliver, and implement an SPH&M program to different clinical disciplines.
Ability to effectively provide presentations to different audiences/groups.
Ability to generate, collate, and report data related to program evaluation.
Ability to conduct a hazard assessment, incident follow-up, and incident reporting with appropriate Plan of Action.
Ability to work effectively will all levels of the organization.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to troubleshoot problems with recommendations for solutions.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
State License in Healthcare or Allied Health Field that performs direct bedside care with patients.
Certification in Safe Patient Handling (CSPHA or CSPHP or CSPHC).
Knowledge in the application of a mobility assessment tool.
