The Department of Microbiology and Immunology comprises an interactive faculty engaged in research in infectious disease and host immune response. We are a young laboratory working in the area of host-gut microbiome interactions using both biological and chemical approaches. We seek a self-motivated Technician to conduct research and provide technical support to postdoctoral fellows and students in the laboratory. Duties include, but are not limited to, performing animal work, bacterial and/or mammalian cell culture, molecular biology techniques, cell sorting/purification, microbiology and immunology techniques, genotyping, and assisting other members of the laboratory in conducting their experiments. General maintenance of the laboratory, including, but not limited to, animal colonies, equipment repair, preparation of reagents, laboratory records, inventory of supplies and other databases, may also be required. This is a one-year appointment, subject to renewal based on performance and available funding. Required qualifications: Individual must have a Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field with 1-2 years of related research experience. Computer proficiency, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, statistical software, etc., is essential. Must possess excellent interpersonal (i.e., able to interact with multiple personalities and individuals with diverse backgrounds), organizational, and communication skills (i.e., written and oral), and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must possess excellent reasoning skills, exercise sound judgment, and be able to function independently after an orientation period. Must be comfortable working with or around laboratory mice. Ability to maintain a detailed, accurate lab notebook and to develop and/or follow SOPs is required.
