Provide a wide range of support for the Department of Microbiology & Immunology.This includes but is not limited to, act as the Department Safety Representative; provide support on equipment repair and maintenance, including fabrication of specialized parts when necessary; monitor and maintain adequate levels of liquid nitrogen for tanks in all departmental laboratories; monitor and maintain the Poultry Virus Isolation facility, including keeping facility clean and in shape for all inspections, interacting with CARE as necessary; maintain departmental darkroom ensuring adequate supplies are on hand and facility is clean; maintain and operate departmental glassware and media kitchen; ensure delivery of mail and packages to all departmental laboratories; oversee and assist with waste disposal from all departmental laboratories; assist with equipment and space inventory; provide support for set up of offices and laboratories for new faculty members.Other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to multitask.Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biology or related field or other formal training program of four years with 1-2 yrs experience working in a laboratory environment. Basic computer knowledge, including electronic mail, web, and business applications (MS Office Suite). Concentration and strong attention to detail essential.Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Must have excellent customer service skills and be willing and able to interact with a diverse clientele. Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a Department Safety Representative preferred. Experience with chemical and/or biological spill response, emergency response plan development preferred or providing one-on-one training in laboratory environments is preferred. Experience with writing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures helpful. Previous experience in equipment and laboratory maintenance preferred.
