PAUL.* Job Description The Hormel Institute’s (HI) Community Outreach and Education Coordinator, reporting to the Development and Public Relations Director, promotes the Institute’s mission by sharing our research expertise to reduce the burden of cancer in Minnesota and in our communities by engaging community members and providing them access to knowledge and information about cancer prevention, treatment, survivorship, and clinical research opportunities. The Community Outreach and Education Coordinator also engages with education partners to promote a K-12 and higher education pipeline of training for the next generation of researchers. The outreach coordinator serves as liaison bringing more HI scientists to community platforms to share their research expertise with stakeholders and partners. Job Duties and Responsibilities
50% - Community Outreach Program Coordination - Develop and execute new and innovative community outreach and engagement programs that provide the community at-large with cancer education and information to better understand and connect to research at The Hormel Institute
- Support the current and existing programs The Hormel Institute participates in such as Paint the Town Pink, annual symposiums and events, and MN State Fair
- Establish and maintain constructive and engaged working relationships and act as a liaison between The Hormel Institute and community partners
- Research, develop, and tailor deliverable and culturally sensitive programming to varied populations in and around Southeast MN
- Work collaboratively with Masonic Cancer Center COE staff on the Twin Cities UMN campus, bringing community engagement cancer initiatives to Southeast MN
- Research and draft components of community grants to support and expand HI’s Community Outreach and Engagement, including letters of inquiry and reporting requirements
- Maintains complete and accurate event and program reporting documentation
- Maintain methods of outcome measurement and program evaluation tools to inform current and future programs
- Completes administrative tasks related to program execution and implementation and maintaining program calendars
25% - Education Program Coordination - Work collaboratively with HI administrative and education leadership to plan, coordinate, and execute current education program activities including summer research internship programs, 6th grade day at HI, science fairs, etc.
- Develop and execute new and innovative K-12 and higher education programs that create a pipeline of research education experiences, engaging the next generation of researchers with The Hormel Institute
- Establish and maintain constructive and engaged working relationships and act as a liaison between the Hormel Institute and education partners
- Maintains complete and accurate event and program reporting documentation
- Maintain methods of outcome measurement and program evaluation tools to inform current and future programs
- Completes administrative tasks related to program execution and implementation and maintaining program calendars
- Curate our education membership contacts and email list monthly to add new faculty and trainee
20% - Community Outreach and Education Events Coordination - Plan and execute an extensive slate of public engagement events and conferences
- Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing project deadlines; venue research; budget development; negotiating with vendors on rates/contracts; expense tracking; food and beverage; accommodations; registration services; guest communication; A/V coordination; speaker management; event logistics; staff planning; branded merchandise; post-event reporting and analysis
- Work alongside HI communications team to creatively promote programs, develop promotional media, flyers, and public service announcements
- Establishing relationships with internal and external partners to facilitate efficient event execution
- Oversee event design (décor, entertainment, and menu elements); selection, negotiation, and management of vendors
- Prepare work plan, timelines, reports, and other required information
- Determine staff and volunteers necessary for events and solicit for participation
- Review and/or write event materials, researching content and completing editing, including presentations with multimedia and complex content design
- Create streamlined processes for community and education event planning management that can be replicated for future and recurring events
- Attend assigned events and provide on-site event management, including evenings and weekends
