Education & Experience: • Eleven years of increasingly responsible professional work experience demonstrating leadership, management, supervision, and administration in a public health community-based field, OR • A bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, or closely related field plus six years of increasing responsible professional work experience demonstrating leadership, management, supervision, and administration in a public health community-based field, OR • Any equivalent combination of experience and education. Preferred Education & Experience: • Master’s degree in public health, social work, or program-related field from an accredited college or university. • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills. • Five years in the areas of mental and behavioral health, substance abuse, LGBTQ+ health and development, or teen/youth health. • Two years of organizational development and change management experience. • Three years in community engagement and building partnerships with community and agency partners. • Three years in grant writing and management. • Clinical training and/or experience in direct psycho-social work with families.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: • Knowledge of the social justice underpinnings of public health and public health’s role in community action and advocacy. • Deep understanding of how to address social determinants of health and root causes to achieve community health goals. • Knowledge of current public health principles, policies/practices, and trends in CH program areas, especially as related to the Colorado context. • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings, engage the community in planning and programming, and reach consensus. • Knowledge of the political process and the role of policy development; ability to coach staff in policy development. • Working knowledge of health planning and research principles. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and community partners and facilitate collaborative and team efforts. • Highly developed and effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to express complicated concepts in easily understood terms to the general public in public settings. • Ability to effectively conduct and implement assessments, interpret and manage data, conduct strategic planning and program evaluation efforts, conduct priority setting, and support division staff to participate in and understand their roles in such processes. • Administrative skills in planning/needs assessment, organizing, prioritizing, budgeting and resource development, problem solving, and negotiation. • Skills in human resource and personnel management, including supervision, motivation, training, team building, coaching, mediation, and conflict management. • Ability to handle stressful situations in a non-reactive manner and quickly change course when needed. • Ability and willingness to work effectively and nonjudgmentally with people from diverse backgrounds. • Demonstrated high emotional intelligence, self-regulation, and strong interpersonal skills. • Ability to build positive connections and a team mentality with staff while demonstrating and modeling a growth mind-set for staff. • Demonstrated practices of teamwork, respect, integrity, innovation, and ongoing commitment to personal and professional development; must place value on work-life balance. Special Requirements: • Must be able to attend meetings, sometimes after hours, at BCPH sites and throughout the community. • Must have access to reliable transportation that is readily available for business use. • May be reassigned in an emergency response (e.g. communicable disease outbreaks, wildfires, floods, etc.). |
