Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Specialist-Data Analyst for the Rutgers' Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research. This position provides data analytic support to a large program of research and constructs statistically advanced programs in SAS and other software to allow analysis of data from large and sensitive national healthcare datasets and population-based surveys. This role works with investigators and senior staff to implement longitudinal statistical programming and data analyses for population health research.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Participates in implementing federally funded population health research studies and in development of publications reporting results.
  • Analyzes application of advanced techniques in SAS software for longitudinal data analysis, data linkage across large datasets, and statistical modeling of outcomes.
  • Applies and interprets appropriate statistical modeling methods; develops and maintains analytic workplans and documentation; and participates in preparation of results for journal publication.
  • Provides data management and statistical programming, with experience in SAS programming with very large datasets, preferably entailing longitudinal analyses and use
    of advanced statistical methods.

    Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in data analysis, programming, and health research.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience writing statistical programs, including experience with SAS.
  • Attention to detail, are required for understanding data and programming requirements, documentation of analytic work, discussion with colleagues and team leadership, and reporting of results.
  • Candidate will need to be well organized with strong interpersonal, time management, and analytic skills.
  • Ability to conduct analyses efficiently and expeditiously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively the requirements, processes, and results of work to colleagues.
  • Strong research background, work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and enjoys making sense of complex data, and scientific curiosity.
  • Ability and motivation to progress rapidly in assimilating and applying advanced techniques in statistical analysis and programming; complex data analyses with SAS and other software; and population health and outcomes research.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or higher preferred with graduate coursework in social science, policy analysis, public health, statistics or biostatistics, or related area.
  • At least one year of SAS programming experience is required (which may be part of training in a masters degree), and a higher level of experience.
  • SAS Macro and Proc SQL experience and experience in analysis of population health research is highly desirable.
  • SAS Base/Advanced Programming training/certification is useful.
  • The successful applicant will have a high degree of computer literacy using Windows.
  • Experience with electronic health record analysis
  • Proficiency in Python

    Equipment Utilized:

  • Microsoft Office products. Software packages such as SAS, SPSS, R, Stata and other specialized software for statistical programming and complex data manipulation.
  • Knowledge of Python is desirable.
