1.Clinical activities. This encompasses providing primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. This includes examination of patient's oral cavity, analyzing results of radiographs and other diagnostic procedures. Prepares charts and determines the most appropriate plan for treatment. Administers appropriate anesthetics, prepares and restores carious teeth with appropriate dental material. Extracts erupted, impacted, infected, otherwise diseased teeth and, as indicated, for guidance and development of the dentition. Performs pulp treatment as indicated. Provides orthodontic treatment and space maintenance. Utilizes non-pharmacological behavior management, inhalation analgesia, conscious sedation and treatment in the operating room. Educates patients and parents regarding preventive dentistry and oral hygiene. Serves as the primary advocate for the oral health of children. Treats diseases of oral diseases with appropriate medication. Maintains and completes records, treatment plans and required reports. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

2.Didactics. Engages in scholarly activity with attendance at department seminars, conferences, lectures and other educational programs as appropriate for enhancing clinically relevant topics of the internship.

3.Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow interns and residents, faculty, employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications.
