Job Summary
Under faculty supervision, interns will receive hands-on training to provide primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. This internship is focused on increased exposure to patient treatment experiences specifically in the dental clinic. Responsibilities
1.Clinical activities. This encompasses providing primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. This includes examination of patient's oral cavity, analyzing results of radiographs and other diagnostic procedures. Prepares charts and determines the most appropriate plan for treatment. Administers appropriate anesthetics, prepares and restores carious teeth with appropriate dental material. Extracts erupted, impacted, infected, otherwise diseased teeth and, as indicated, for guidance and development of the dentition. Performs pulp treatment as indicated. Provides orthodontic treatment and space maintenance. Utilizes non-pharmacological behavior management, inhalation analgesia, conscious sedation and treatment in the operating room. Educates patients and parents regarding preventive dentistry and oral hygiene. Serves as the primary advocate for the oral health of children. Treats diseases of oral diseases with appropriate medication. Maintains and completes records, treatment plans and required reports. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 2.Didactics. Engages in scholarly activity with attendance at department seminars, conferences, lectures and other educational programs as appropriate for enhancing clinically relevant topics of the internship. 3.Promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow interns and residents, faculty, employees, physicians, patients and visitors. Treats these individuals with courtesy, dignity, empathy and respect; consistently displays courteous and respectful verbal and non-verbal communications. 4.Adheres to, complies with and demonstrates support for the mission and values of Denver Health. 5.Ensures confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care. 6.Has regular and predictable attendance. 7.Ensures all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided. 8.Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient's status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided 9.Employee has completed and met their clinical competency standards. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 1.Development of knowledge of the principles, standard practices, and techniques of Pediatric Dentistry sufficient to be able to provide primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. 2.Knowledge of department policies, procedures, objectives, safety and infection control standards sufficient to be able to maintain the expected level of efficiency. 3.Skill in exercising initiative, judgment, and decision making in solving problems and meeting organizational objectives. 4.Skill in diagnosing dental problems and developing treatment plans. 5.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other residents, faculty, employees, organizations and the public. 6.Skill in maintaining and organizing departmental records, records, reports and files. 7.Skill in adapting new information relative to the work assignment through educational seminars, meetings and staff meetings. 8.Performs in a tactful and professional manner. 9.Knowledge of medical terminology. 10.Strong organizational skills. 11.Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and independently. 12.Ability to prioritize tasks with varied patient complexities and populations. 13.Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate across a wide spectrum of audiences. 14.Understand of basic care coordination and case management-related service function (patient interview, discharge planning, referral management, community resources, etc.) 15.Resourcefulness in problem solving and analytical thinking; shows accountability and able to take and follow through with delegated tasks with minimal direction from supervisor; flexibility in responding to multiple demands.
Computers and Technology 1.Proficient in Microsoft office suite to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint. 2.Epic experience, preferred. Education * Doctorate Degree (Required) Education and Experience 1. Graduate from a school of dentistry that is accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation2. Successfully passed the National Board Dental Examination Part I and Part 2
