For detailed information on Benefits for this position, click here. UW MEDICAL CENTER – MONTLAKE – PHARMACY has an outstanding opportunity for a FULL-TIME QUALITY ASSURANCE COORDINATORY (Day Shifts). The Quality Assurance Coordinator (Pharmacist 4) will direct, develop, implement and evaluate quality assurance programs for compounded sterile products across UW Medicine Pharmacies and is responsible for coordinating and managing the interpretation and reporting of microbiological test results, environmental monitoring test results, end product test results, and test results from sterile compounding room staff. Responsibilities include working with area managers and compounding staff to design and implement all quality assurance policies, standards and performance of all tests in accordance with the pharmacy department’s standard operating procedures. The position requires working independently in a highly efficient and organized manner to ensure timely review and action of results and reports. RESPONSIBILITIES: Management: • Develop, implement and maintain, in collaboration with pharmacy managers, training programs and competency assessments designed to ensure a high level of expertise in the compounding of sterile products for pharmacy personnel. • Direct UW Medicine Department of Pharmacy’s quality assurance programs for compounded sterile products. • Promote and coordinate initiatives to maintain safe and appropriate conditions within iso-classified cleanrooms throughout UW Medicine Department of Pharmacy. • Maintain responsibility for advising the pharmacy managers and directors of pharmacy on all quality matters related to the preparation of sterile products. • Provide management and project reports as required. • Assume other responsibilities in the management of the pharmacy department quality assurance program as delegated. • Maintain thorough knowledge of technical advances and current practice standards in quality assurance in the field of sterile compounding and microbiology. • Responsibility for evaluating microbial environmental testing of air, surfaces and personnel as outlined in USP standards. • Work with equipment, quality assurance and 503B vendors associated with the sterile compounding program. This includes assisting in the assessment and selection of vendors, site visits, and follow-up for customer service issues. • Provide guidance on sterile compounding facility design. • Work collaboratively with the Medication Safety Officers and Pharmacy Managers to assess departmental metrics with regards to quality assurance initiatives. • Assist with creating and maintaining policies and standard operating procedures for the UW Medicine pharmacy department’s compounded sterile product quality assurance program. • Responsibility for quality control, quality assurance, problem solving, error review and regulatory compliance for all actions related to sterile product preparation. • Present annual program review to the Quality Oversight Committee. • Performs all other duties as assigned. Program and Financial Management: • Maintain effective communication with the administrative staff of the UW Medicine Department of Pharmacy and other medical centers departments as required. • Develop and maintain methods for monitoring expenditures for the quality assurance program. • Assure compliance with all pharmacy laws, regulations and accreditation standards as it relates to sterile compounding. Liaison with regulatory agencies and accreditation entities as delegated. • Coordinate with Pharmacy Compliance Officer for compliance issues and records management as required by regulatory agencies, the University, and UW Medicine. • Develop and maintain systems to evaluate the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of departmental quality assurance services. • Facilitate development and maintenance of an infection control plan consistent with the medical center-wide infection control policies and in conjunction with the infection control staff. • Review sterility testing reports and communicate results to pharmacy leadership team. Ensure appropriate action when microbial sampling exceeds action levels. • Provide routine, ongoing evaluation of equipment and products utilized in sterile compounding practices. Assure that required maintenance and monitoring of equipment is completed. Assure that primary engineering controls and secondary engineering controls meet or exceed requirements in sterile compounding areas. Personnel: • Assure pharmacy staff development, new employee orientation, and ongoing training of national quality assurance standards and regulations in coordination with management team members. • Assure quality assurance documentation is current for licensed or certified personnel. Education: • Lead departmental continuing education for pharmacy department staff regarding state and federal regulations in regards to all relevant chapters of USP, state and FDA regulations and national quality assurance standards of practice. • Lecture for the School of Pharmacy in its undergraduate, graduate and/or continuing education programs as requested. • Develop and maintain a training program for pharmacy interns and residents. Research: • Participate in collaborative research with the Schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health. • Encourage participation in practice-oriented research. Other: • Develop leadership role and participate in pharmacy organizations. • Encourage publication of research and articles in professional journals. • Promote an image of service and goodwill to the patients, public and medical center staff. • Collaborate with the Infection Control Committee’s. DESIRED: • Prior experience leading a health-system sterile compounding area. • Demonstrated experience communicating and collaborating effectively in a health-system environment. |
