Location: Illinois: Chicago Job Description: - Supports day-to-day implementation of a community-facing social system research project, including secondary data and research collection, while ensuring fidelity to research ethics and study design.
- Assists with historical analysis of relevant crisis response narratives.
- Collaborates with law enforcement to collect critical data and qualitative information.
- Facilitates integration of community feedback into research process and generated products.
- Prepares project memos, summaries, presentations and manuscripts targeting both technical and non-technical audiences, including policymakers, academic researchers and other stakeholders.
- Helps with grant reporting and obtaining research permits as needed.
- Prepares sections of research results, including proofing, formatting and creating tables and graphs.
- Assists with the coordination of research activities, communications with partner agencies, and managing project deliverables.
- Leads the planning and execution of virtual events, including a national roundtable with partner agencies, as well as potentially other in-person dissemination events.
- Coordinates and documents internal and external meetings.
- Assists in writing grant proposals and preparing presentations targeting both policymakers and academic audiences.
- Assists with data collection, management, and analysis including cleaning and assembling the files for data analysis.
- Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects.
- Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
- Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects.
- Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze the meaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.
- Performs other related work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Education: - Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, economics, sociology, public health, public policy or another relevant field required. Will consider applicants with equivalent lived experience.
Work Experience: - Knowledge and skills developed through at least one year of relevant research experience. Experience gained in school counts towards requirements.
Experience: - Experience collecting and managing qualitative and quantitative datasets.
- Knowledge and understanding of criminal justice and 911 emergency crisis response.
- Strong computer skills including the ability to effectively use software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Internet Explorer.
