Department: MED-Center for Community Health Salary/Grade: NEX/13 Job Summary: The core focus of this position is to serve as a Community-Campus Coordinator to facilitate partnerships with South Asian community partners in the Chicagoland area (including community, faith-based, & patient advocacy organizations; public agencies; coalitions) to establish and deepen trusting relationships and meaningfully engage partners for collaboration that improve health equity. This position will support the South Asian Healthy Lifestyle Intervention program. This is a research program of Dr. Namratha Kandula, MD, MPH within the Center for Community Health (CCH) and Northwestern’s Institute for Public Health & Medicine (IPHAM). This research program brings together community organizations, public health agencies, health systems, and academic researchers, to conduct research on understanding and reducing South Asian American health disparities, with a focus on those who are underserved or limited English proficient. This position will support partnership facilitation, capacity-building workshops and one-on-one technical assistance to help partners participate in research. We support the CCH Principles of Engagement in our approach and the research we support. Our projects include the MASALA study, SAATH study, and SAHELI study. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will: - Supervise community based recruitment staff for research studies
- Create recruitment and outreach plans for studies
- Provide input to research team on improving processes based on community evaluation

Specific Responsibilities: Administration - Manages day to day operations.
- Ensures that program/project mission, values, guidelines, policies & procedures are implemented & maintained.
- Manages design and development of program databases; compiles & analyzes data; prepares reports.
- Identifies service improvement opportunities that will better enable program/project to achieve its goals and objectives.
Budgets & Financial - Participates in budget preparation.
- Maintains budget & associated analysis & reports.
Communication, Outreach & Recruitment - Develops coordinated, consistent marketing and brand messages.
- Strengthens partnerships with external resources by defining, promoting and marketing benefits of participation and involvement to the organization.
- Creates and nurtures relationships with organizations to develop a network of enthusiastic organizations engaged via active participation in the success of program/project.
Evaluation - Observes program sessions and interacts with participants for purpose of gaining consumer insight, growing and strengthening program knowledge, and optimizing client satisfaction.
Events - Coordinates programming, educational, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers, agendas, etc.
- Develops plans and arranges meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within NU.
- Ensures that event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
Program Development - Manages program/project curriculum, seminars, presentations, workshops, learning experiences, chat rooms, websites, social networking, etc. based on goals/objectives.
- Manages academic quality and continued growth and expansion.
- Identifies & obtains external expertise as needed and works with content experts for current and new programs.
- Reviews programs/projects to increase efficiencies to support growth.
- Manages speaker selection, communication, and topic development.
- Leads program/project updates and improvements.
Regulatory Compliance - Ensures compliance with all necessary organizations.
- Prepares documentation as required.
- Interfaces with accreditation bodies.
- Acts as the regulatory and compliance officer.
Strategic Planning - Administers & maintains existing strategic plans related to community engagement.
- Participates with area/unit senior staff in the conceptualization, development and presentation of materials used in functional operations.
Miscellaneous - Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: - Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
- 1 year program/project administration or other relevant experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) - Strong community connections and experience in working with Chicagoland South Asian communities
- Knowledge & familiarity of Chicagoland South Asian communities including community priorities, & local issues/history, politics, & community engagement in an academic health/medical setting;
- Great communication & interpersonal skills, including public speaking, group facilitation, & writing. Able to interact effectively & tactfully with a broad range of people (e.g., grassroots leaders, community residents, government officials, teachers, physicians); persuasive and diplomatic; assertive, with the confidence to talk to people at all levels.
- Reliable and able to work both independently & as a team member; resourceful, able to plan own workday, set objectives and identify new opportunities as they arise.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Public Health, Social Services/Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience from which comparable skills can be acquired;
- Experience working within Chicago-based community health or service agency;
- Understanding and/or experience with community-engaged research project or partnership and/or in university/academic setting.
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) - Fluency in Hindi, Gujarati, or Urdu
