GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the V.P. of Perioperative Services and the OR Nurse Manager according to established policies and procedures, the OR RN plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care provided to patients of all ages, whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during a surgical or invasive procedure. Performs any other specialized nursing duties as assigned. The OR RN possess clinical knowledge, judgment, and critical thinking skills based upon scientific principles and evidenced based practice to address the patient�s physical, psychological, and spiritual needs. Practice is in compliance with all regulatory agencies including: The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, CMS, CDC, and OSHA. The OR RN ensures a safe environment for patients and staff, and serves as a resource to healthcare team members. The OR RN collaborates and consults with Management, Service Leaders, physicians, educator, staff nurses, and technical staff to ensure patient and family-centered perioperative nursing care. Although the OR RN collaborates with professional and technical providers, the OR RN is accountable for patent outcomes resulting from the nursing care provide during a surgical or invasive procedures. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides competency based patient and family centered care to patients undergoing a planned or emergent surgical procedure. Service Collaborates and consults with management, Service Leaders, physicians, educator, and technical staff to ensure patient and family- centered Perioperative Nursing care Serves as a resource to healthcare team members Minimizes delays for the surgeon and patient by ensuring required supplies and equipment are available Provides progress reports directly or indirectly to the patient or family members. Professional Practice � Circulates and scrubs all elective and emergent surgical procedures � Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices � Ensures optimal quality of patient care by monitoring and assessing the skill level of staff personnel � Participates in the development, revision, or deletion of departmental policies, standards, and procedures Quality and Safety � Participates in unit or hospital based Nursing, Quality Improvement, and Safety Programs � Identifies and participates in the resolution of problems � Communicates physician's requests and preferences to Service Leaders � Immediately removes defective instruments or equipment from service � Informs the Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse of any unplanned adverse events � Complies with regulations, including but not limited to: The Joint Commission, CDC, CMS, and DPH � Complies with policies and procedures to ensure patient safety including but not limited to: preventing the retention of unplanned surgical items, prevention of surgical sites infections, medication safety, and OR fire safety Financial � Minimizes wastage of supplies by maintaining up to date preference cards � Participates in the identification, evaluation, and selection of new equipment, supplies, or instruments � Informs the Service Leader of any items that need to be added or deleted to the surgeon�s preference cards � Ensures that documentation meets the requirements for the use of supplies and equipment #LI-KF1 Qualifications: KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: � B.S.N. � Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts � Three years of related nursing experience preferred � Certification in Operating Room Nursing (CNOR) preferred � BCLS (American Heart Association) required upon hire � Ability to arrive within 30 minutes when called in for and emergent or urgent procedure Job: Surgical Services Primary Location: Framingham, Massachusetts Facility: MetroWest Framingham Union Hospital Job Type: Full-time Shift Type: Rotate Employment practices will not be influenced or affected by an applicant�s or employee�s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status or any other legally protected status.
