The Division of General Pediatrics has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Research Scientist/Engineer – Assistant. The purpose of this position is to provide research support for the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center (HIPRC). HIPRC is a worldwide leader in injury cause and prevention research. HIPRC’s multi-disciplinary faculty are dedicated to conducting research, education, and prevention programs aimed at diminishing the personal impact of trauma, and broadening the effectiveness of injury prevention and treatment programs regionally and nationally. The Temporary Research Scientist/Engineer - Assistant position will support a grant-funded research project studying the impact of state laws pertaining to school-based response and prevention on reducing adolescent intimate partner violence. The position will be paid hourly and requires experience conducting difference-in-difference analyses. This individual will be responsible for managing state-level data from CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey and conducting analyses to assess the impact of state laws on outcomes of adolescent intimate partner violence longitudinally. This position reports directly to the project PI, Dr. Avanti Adhia. The position will be based at the Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center on the Harborview Medical Center campus but all work and meetings will be completed remotely. There will also be opportunities for co-authorship and to assist with preparation of manuscripts for publication or presentation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: •Manage state-level data from CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey •Conduct difference-in-differences analyses to assess the impact of state laws on outcomes of adolescent intimate partner violence •Assist with preparation of manuscripts for publication or presentation •Assist with developing presentations or materials for external dissemination •Meet regularly with project PI to review project progress and plan next steps •Perform additional duties as assigned that fall within the reasonable scope of this position Minimum qualifications: •Bachelor’s Degree in public health, public policy, sociology, or any related field AND one year of appropriate experience in academic research OR equivalent education/experience •Experience conducting difference-in-difference analyses using statistical software (e.g., Stata, R) •Strong oral and written communication skills •Proficient with the Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Desired qualifications: •Master’s degree in public health, public policy, education, or any related field •Currently enrolled in doctoral program •Work experience, academic training, and/or interest in violence research or adolescent health.
