This is a part time position anticipated to work 17.5 hours per week.

The Department of Infectious Disease and Global Health combines four important areas of expertise within Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. These are public/population health, international medicine, wildlife and conservation medicine, and infectious disease research. The alignment of these areas promotes cross-disciplinary strengths that are important in achieving the department's goal of improving human, animal and ecosystem health locally, nationally and internationally. Much of the research in the Department aims to advance understanding of the biology and host interaction of pathogens, particularly those causing enteric disease, and to use this information to develop immunotherapy and vaccines against the pathogens.

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Global Health Equity, and University of Rwanda have created a One Health Collaborative with a mission to "train the next generation of leaders through a One Health approach; utilizing systems thinking to equitably improve the health of humans, animals, and the environment using multidisciplinary training, evidence-based research, and implementation science." The One Health Collaborative serves as an interdisciplinary framework that anchors University of Global Health Equity's and the University of Rwanda's health science research and training around One Health principles. These innovative programs will yield global health leaders with a strong technical fluency in One Health. The hallmark of the One Health Collaborative is the One Health Fellowship program, a 6-week bilateral, global exchange initiative, designed to promote mutual understanding, enhance One Health leadership and professional skills, and build lasting and sustainable partnerships between the fellows, Rwandan institutions, and partners in the United States.

The Cummings School is seeking applicants for a part-time (50%) One Health Research Associate to support One Health capacity building activities for the One Health Collaborative. Key responsibilities include: support the One Health Fellowship program, participate in identified One Health related research projects, supervise students involved in One Health projects, support research activities on gender and livestock vaccine project, assist in the review and development of curricula to incorporate One Health across multiple disciplines, deliver courses in One Health, identify One Health research and grant writing opportunities, assist in the writing and submission of grants and manuscripts; and establish a repository of relevant One Health training materials. A successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be willing to frequently travel internationally, and capable of working effectively with different partners to build capacity in One Health, all while supervising, training and mentoring students. The candidate will promote a system thinking approach to problem solving through carrying out One Health research, teaching and service, and by identifying multidisciplinary field-based experiential learning opportunities for students. The One Health Research Associate will also be expected to contribute to expanding existing graduate and research programs in One Health at the University of Global Health Equity and the Cummings School.

Basic Requirements:

• MS in Public Health, Conservation Medicine, International Development, Environmental Science or another relevant discipline. They must have knowledge and/or experience in One Health and be interested in expanding their knowledge in Global Health Equity, Social Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
• 5 + years of experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of working effectively with different partners to build capacity in One Health, all while supervising, training and mentoring students.

Preferred Qualifications:

• DVM, MD or PhD in Public Health, Conservation Medicine, International Development, Environmental Science or other relevant discipline.
• Relevant/equivalent field based experience in areas of public health in lieu of doctorate.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

International travel; some evening and weekend work may be requested as necessary.
