Essential Functions: The Vice Dean, of Finance and Administration reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine and the Vice President of Health Affairs. They work closely with the Dean and senior leadership in planning, fiscal management, and policy development. Serves as the Principal Business Officer (PBO) to the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) and manages financial relationships with the College of Nursing and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.Essential Functions: Serves as the senior administrative and fiscal officer in the School of Medicine for financial matters, staffing/organizational oversight, policy development, and program evaluation. Oversees all fiscal and organizational affairs of the School of Medicine, which includes preparation and oversight of the medical school budget, monitoring cash flow and expenditure plans, staff recruiting and retention, funds management, and grants and contracts management. Directs the preparation of the Request Budget for the School and responds to questions from external and internal sources concerning the budget and School of Medicine fiscal resource issues. Develops principles and strategies for resource allocation within the School of Medicine.Provides leadership and structure to all administrative staff in the School. Provides timely communications to staff. Manages the administrative process for assigned staff including hiring, promotions, terminations, disciplinary procedures, and salary adjustments. Sets expectations & focus, assigns duties, delegates responsibilities, evaluates activities, prepares performance appraisals & professional development plans. Provides coaching, mentoring and teaching. Assists in developing responses and assuring compliance with external and internal audits, and monitoring of expenditures in accordance with State fiscal rules and University fiscal policy. Develops and maintains appropriate system of internal controls and School of Medicine fiscal policy. Coordinates financial and operational responses to LCME and AAMC questions and surveys. Through assigned staff, designs and implements business-focused policies/contracts, processes, and procedures that are in alignment with University strategies and objectives.Serves as the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration for Health Affairs managing financial relationships with the College of Nursing and the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Manages relationships with Wayne Health, Wayne Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine groups. Prepares contracts with hires of these entities who have joint appointments.
